Kadam Haat was started in 2009. It promotes the use of Bamboo and Sabaii Grass, which are easily available in West Bengal for making handicraft products.
The main idea is to provide livelihood opportunities rural artisans of Kumarhat & Nayangram block in West and East Midnapore of West Bengal. At the same time they want to produce products which are unique in design, 100% Handmade, 100% biodegradable, made from sustainable materials and environment friendly. The products are certified by Craftmark in Sabaii, Bamboo and Shell cluster. For these reaons Bamboo, Sabaii grass and natural colours are used for procution.Women are supported to work from home. They are empowered financially and made self-reliant in order to bring about some social transformation and acceptance for them.
Kadam Haat ploughs its profits to Kadam NGO which trains rural artisans and provides infrastructural developments like provision of solar power and tubewells.
